Abstract

Lucy is a hypothetical character who offers conversations about identity, feminism, the female gaze in pop culture, and what it means to be a “modern” Indian woman. Through illustration, she performs some of the sexist Indian adages in colorful, social media-worthy settings to enunciate how these toxic patterns are normalized in our daily lives and our culture.

Inspired by the work of Shirin Neshat, Cindy Sherman, Andy Warhol, and Frida Kalho, this satirical series aims to document the lives of women at the intersection of global culture and local gender politics.
