Transcending Natural Impression

Abstract

There have been numerous studies proving nature’s positive effects on wellbeing and its ability to induce emotions. This triggered an exploration of subverting what we see when we think of “nature” and exploring how far biophilic design can be stretched.

This is an immersive experience meant to provoke a feeling of curiosity, and hint at natural forms while allowing the viewers t each experience something unique based on their own individual psyche. Form and color were inspired by Surrealist paintings and different techniques of imaging landscapes such as infrared photography, thermal imaging, slit scan photography, and microscopy. Materials were chosen for their tactile and emotive qualities to enhance the experience and spark curiosity about the natural environments by which the space was inspired.
