A Geometry of Democracy

Abstract

This project focuses on developing a visual identity for the iconic National Parliament Building of Bangladesh, designed by Louis I. Kahn. Once a place where many fondly recall playing in its open spaces, the building has remained off-limits to the public for nearly 20 years due to security restrictions. This project envisions a future where select areas become accessible through a thoughtfully crafted identity system inspired by local culture and the four fundamental principles of Bangladesh’s Constitution—nationalism, socialism, democracy, and secularism. The promotional materials and visitor guides seek to reconnect the public with Kahn’s architectural masterpiece and reinforce their sense of belonging to Bangladesh’s democracy.
