Abstract
This project is inspired by personal and social experiences with external stressors that put multiple communities and generations at a disadvantage. The suggested solutions are “work harder,” “put 10,000 hours toward your craft,” “go to school and get your degree to obtain your dream job.” But how can that be possible when school takes up the hours you could be working and work takes up the hours you should be resting?
At what point can we, as a society, admit the various ways that individuals, especially marginalized individuals, are disadvantaged and often exploited? The Curriculum of Normality intends to expose who poses the “normal” criteria, different “normalization” tactics practiced by media outlets and educational institutions, and the frequency in which marginalized communities are systemically judged, impaired, altered and hindered by this critique.
